I knew after my first basketball practice in second grade, I would want to continue to play the game. I have always enjoyed competing and found that basketball was one of the most fun ways to do so. From the fast-paced tempo, to the exciting highlights, and flawless teamwork, I love it all. One of the things I have learned about myself through playing basketball, is how to overcome adversity. During my 8th grade year, I hurt my ankle pretty badly and was unable to play for a couple weeks. I was definitely bummed out about the situation, but it helped me learn a valuable lesson to make sure I don’t take for granted the time that I get to spend on the court. I worked hard in physical therapy to make sure I was back in the game as fast as possible. Injuries happen constantly in sports, so my injury reminded me that every minute counts on the court.
Academics have always come first for me and my family. My brother received a full-ride academic scholarship for college, and has really been a great role model for me. I know that to get to the level of basketball that I want to play at, grades are very important. My goal is to play basketball at the highest level for me that also is the right fit academically. Some unique characteristics and skills that I possess, are my elite shooting ability, high basketball IQ, and decision making. I take pride in my shot selection and also creating opportunities for my teammates. I am a good ball-handler and rarely ever turn the ball over.
