I have a strong desire to play basketball in college. I have had to learn to overcome and to persevere through adversity. I unfortunately was injured with a torn labrum in my left shoulder in the second varsity game of my sophomore year and missed the whole season. I missed summer AAU because of a second surgery. That second surgery was highly successful and I am currently fully healthy and much stronger. I rejoined a school team this year that was very strong. I was asked to be the defensive stopper. I wasn't asked to score. We had several college scholarship players on our State Final team. At seasons end, Coach called me an elite defender against anyone 6'2" to 6'5". This taught me what it truly means to be a two-way player. I played every position offensively 1-4 this past season. Coach would move me around so I had a large playbook that I had to learn.
I played Center Striker my first three years in varsity soccer but I am not playing my senior year because I want to dedicate my time this summer and fall to weightlifting and basketball training. I'm excited to focus on one sport for the first time in my life. I challenge myself daily to see how far I can develop as I continue to make my comeback. I know I haven’t reached my ceiling yet. I have embraced the journey God put me on and I want to make the most of my opportunities.
