Getting through times of adversity has shaped me into the person I am today. Last year my family and I suffered a huge loss as a result of Hurricane Harvey. The entire first floor of our home flooded and we lost most of our belongings, however we were thankful we did not lose our lives. During this process, my teammates and parents and coaches from both my high school and AAU team came to help with the repair of our home and provided meals for my family when we did not have a place to cook. As a result, I learned the importance and strength of the relationships and bonds that I’ve built through basketball and the fact that they go a long way.
My interest in basketball came at a very young age. Throughout the years of playing basketball, I have seen my game progress from being more of a distributor and a pace controller to more of a balanced distributor/scorer. Since I was young my shot has always been there for me, but now I have been working on getting more consistent in shooting in game-type situations. I was able to see where this hard work paid off this summer when my AAU team won 4 tournaments and reached the Quarterfinals in the 17u division of the Las Vegas Classic.
As a senior, I’m looking forward to being able to serve as a leader on my high school Varsity team and as a mentor to the sub-varsity team members and others in my community.
I hope to become a part of a program where I can bring these leadership skills and continue to develop these strengths. My goal is to pursue a career in coaching where I can continue to mentor other athletes and share my knowledge of basketball.
