Hello, my name is Thomas Wesche. I am 17 years-old and I am from Flagstaff, Arizona. I began diving less than 2 years ago, after competing in USA Men's Gymnastics for many years. I was still competing as a level 10 gymnast, when I began diving my sophomore year at Flagstaff High School. In August 2017, just two weeks before the start of the high school season, my gymnastic coach and our high school swim/dive coach, both encouraged me to give diving a try. Even though I was only able to practice a couple times a week along with gymnastics, I found that first season, very rewarding and challenging. I was energized and amazed how quickly I could "dive" into this new sport! After attending Ripfest Diving Camp in Indiana last summer, I decided I wanted nothing more than to put all my heart and soul into diving. It was like a light went off and I was hooked! I came home from Indiana and decided I was finished with gymnastics. A whole new world had just opened up! I was excited that every time I practiced, I learned something new. I was going to become a competitive diver!
During my high school junior year, 2018/2019, I put all my efforts into diving. I began practicing 5 nights a week during the high school season, and continued with our club team, Northern Arizona Divers. I attended Ripfest Diving Camp over the Christmas break and again this summer for several weeks. Even though I still consider myself a new diver, I am becoming more competitive all the time. I work very hard, I am very coachable, and I am always respectful to my coaches. I continue to practice 5 days a week at the amazing NAU Aquatic Center with my outstanding club coach, Nikki Kelsey-Huffman. I now compete 1m, 3m, and even platform. I just attended Zones in Midland, TX for the 1st time. This was only my fourth experience competing platform. I just competed all three events at AAU Nationals in Riverside, CA a couple weeks ago. I medaled in all three events. I hope to have a very competitive high school and club season this year, as I pursue diving in college. I would like to become a college diver first, and then a Radiologist.
