Personal Statement

My name is Connor Pennington.  I am a junior at the Monson Innovative High School.  I am the third child in a family of three children. My older siblings went to Springfield College and competed in swimming. My sister was a division 3 national champion in the 50 and the 100 free. My parents were both division 1 track and field athletes.  I am hoping to attend a four year school that has fashion design as well as a competative diving program. 

I have been diving at my high school for five years with limited coaching.  I have had a limited amount of diving lessons with the Springfield Area Diving team. I hope to have my first competition with that team this spring at the AAU regional meet. It will be my first time diving on a three meter board.  I have won the Massachusetts State Diving Championships the last two years.  

I am person who follows a different path than most others.  While my friends joined soccer and basketball I chose to do gymnastics and swimming. When my friends chose to go to wood shop I took art class.  Recently I took sewing classes and designed my first pair of jeans. I guess I am not your typical sixteen year old. 

In diving I would say I am also not typical.  I enjoy the challenge of difficult dives with a high degree of difficulty.  I have the ability to set goals,focus, and perform.  I am very excited to begin diving 3 meter and eventually on the platform.  I am a competitor and rise to the challenge.

Outside of the pool I am also a five year member of cross country and track and field team. I do high jump,long jump,triple jump, javelin, 400 hurdles and 110 hurdles. 

Outside sports I am a five year member of The Nomads of Hope. This is a mission group that travels nationally and internationally to assist people in need.  I have traveled to New York, Pennsylvania, Arizona,and NewMexico.  On these trips I have worked in a battered woman's shelter,a food pantry, a soup kitchen ,done home renovations, and built handicapped structures. 

I am looking forward to pursuing a career in fashion design and competing at  division 1 in diving.  I hope to compete at the 1 and 3 meter boards as well as on the platform.  I know I have limited experience but extreme untapped potential. I look forward to hearing from you.
