In the last few years, golf has become an integral part of my life. I've grown to love the game, and the memories and friendships that I have formed will last me a lifetime. One thing about me: When I commit to something, I give 110%. It has been a lifetime goal and aspiration for me to play a sport in college. I began playing basketball in the 3rd grade. I played on several club, travel, and school teams, participated in camps, and workouts, and worked with a private coach. Entering high school, I was a solid basketball player, but with the incredibly competitive nature of basketball, my chances of competing at the college level were slowly dwindling. Instead of giving up on my goal, I started from scratch.
I picked up golf about four years ago, in 7th grade, when I was 12 years old, and as a beginner, I picked up the game fairly quickly. Within a year, I broke 100 for the first time. About 2 1/2 years ago, I competed in my first golf tournament, and my competitive golf career began. For the 2021 golf season, I played in 7 tournaments, had a scoring average of 85, and a handicap of 11. I was pleased with my progress, but, I was still far off from my goal.
In the fall and winter of 2021-2022, I began working with my new coach, Nick Bova. I used the money I had saved over the summer working for an IT Automation company, Resolve Systems, to buy myself an OptiShot2, a golf simulator, and installed it in my basement. With the ability to practice every day during the winter, I made incredible strides in my game this past year. During my summer season of 2022, I played in 13 tournaments. I had two second-place finishes, shooting 73 (+1), and 75 (+3), as well as a win, shooting 77 (+5). I reduced my handicap to 1.7, and in October of 2022, I broke 70 for the first time in my life on numerous occasions.
I'm incredibly excited for this upcoming golf season, especially high school, and I plan to play a lot more events on the AJGA tour. Playing alongside a team brings a different kind of competitiveness and brotherhood, and is yet another reason that I fell in love with the sport. I have confidence that with my skill, determination, and teamwork, I can be a valuable asset to any college.
