Personal Statement
I am a 6'3", 180 junior golfer from Candler, NC. I currently attend Enka High School where I have lettered for 3 years on the Varsity Golf Team. As a freshman, I was awarded Conference "Rookie of the Year", Enka High School Golf "Rookie of the Year", was Co-Captain of the golf team, as well as "All Conference Second Team". As a Sophomore, I lead the 3A Conference in Stroke Average at about 78.8, was awarded "All Conference First Team" in the entire 3A/4A split conference, as well as "3A Conference Player of the Year". I was also awarded the Enka High School "Low Stroke Average of the Year" by winning three 3A/4A split Conference matches - Broadmoor Golf Links-76, Reems Creek Country Club-78, and Linville Falls Country Club-73. I also led our high school golf team to their first ever Conference Championship as well as to Regionals - two years in a row - for the first time in school history. I was also named "All Region, Honorable Mention" as a sophomore. Over the 2011 summer, I competed on the NJGT Golf Tour where I finished first twice with rounds of 77/78 at Bermuda Run, and 74 at Windemere country club. I also placed third in the Western Regional Optimist Qualifier out of a field of about 20 golfers and qualified for the NJGT Championship. I also competed in the WNCJGA, where I won 2 out of the 3 tournaments I competed in - the Jr. Skyview-75/73 and Glen Cannon Shootout -77/71. During this Junior year I was awarded the MAC 3A/4A split conference player of the year where I won by 14 shots overall, and held the lowest score of the season. I placed in six of our ten matches, and held the low stroke average all year around. So far this summer I have added three more victorys, Sapona Country Club 76/85, TYGA River Bend 74, Junior Skyview 70/69. I Just Competed in the Golf Pride Tarheel Junior where I shot 73/75. The Big I Qualifier where I shot 74, and the Big I State Tournament where I shot 77/73. As important as golf is to me, academics is my number one priority. I have maintained a 3.4 unweighted GPA and a 4.0weighted GPA.
I am looking for a college where I can find the right balance between the classroom, golf course and personal life. I am currently undecided, but am looking to pursue something in the area of architecture or turf management. As I continue to improve and set goals, I hope to compete at a Division-One University.
