Personal Statement

Hi, Im Britt Bailey and I’m a junior attending Oklahoma Christian Academy. My end goal is to play collegiate golf at a high level. Im an extremely hard working athlete as well as a dedicated student, managing a job, straight A’s, and playing my sport at a very high level.

I’ve been working very hard this season and the results are starting to show, as of 4/11/23, my last two starts were both top 5’s with a rounds of 77 and 73.

Listed Below is a recommendation letter from my varsity coach,

 Josh Sells
Boys Golf Coach
Oklahoma Christian Academy

To Whom It May Concern:

It is my sincere privilege to write this letter of recommendation for Britt Bailey. Britt has been an integral part of our golf team at OCA for the past 6 years, and I’m confident that he would be a great addition to your golf program. In the year that I have known him, his leadership abilities have shown through many times, both on and off the course.

In the time that I have known Britt, his dedication to the game of golf has been unmatched. He is very committed to making sure that every aspect of his game is at the highest level. He routinely stays late after practice, making sure that he works on even the most minute details of his game. Even on our off days and weekends, it is not uncommon to find Britt at his home course practicing or playing on his own, in order to ensure that his game stays sharp.

Britt is very coachable, being very receptive to any advice that is given to him, and asking very poignant questions in regard to ways he can improve on both the mental and physical aspects of golf. Despite his excellent skill level, he has always remained very humble, and has been a joy to coach. He is also an exemplary teammate, taking time to help other members of our team work on their game and being very encouraging both in practice and during tournaments.

Britt’s hard work and dedication to his golf game also extend to the classroom. In speaking with several of his former and current teachers, the common theme that emerged was how engaged he is in the classroom. To quote one of his current teachers, “when we were working on a project, he asked if he would be allowed to go above and beyond the project requirements in order to challenge himself.” His character is also highly regarded. He never involves himself in any drama, and is nice to everyone around him.

As previously stated, I think Britt would be an amazing addition to your golf program, not only from an athletic standpoint, but from a character standpoint as well. If you have any questions for me, or would like to speak with me further about anything in this letter, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Josh Sells

  • This is the most i have ever learned from a tournament. I started with an opening round 74 (+2) on a very difficult day and leaving myself 3 shots off the lead and in a tie for 4th. During the second round, I slowly battled my way closer and closer to the leader until I had the solo lead going into 16. I fell out of my game plan and made a double bogey followed by a bogey. This threw the tournament away for me. Although I finished 4th, I learned so much about my mental rigidity during those last few holes. I know what I need to focus on and I'm ready to get out there and capitalize on my mistakes.

  • This tournament came just 3 days after injuring my back while working out. My swing was off and short because I couldn't rotate fully. Nothing clicked in this tournament and I carded a 79 and a 78 placing me at T-30th. Learned a lot about the my short game during this tournament.
  • Camp/Event
  • RR Series #1 - Lake Hefner GC (TJGT)
  • 5/31/23 to 6/01/23
  • With this event playing right around 7000 yards and stiff winds both days, I knew the scoring was going to be tough. I shot an opening 74 (+2) to put myself 5 shots back of the lead and sitting in T-8th. My only goal for the second round was to go as low as possible. I rounded the front nine at -1 and having the only round under par at the time was sitting one shot back off the lead. I kept it steady at +1 until halfway through my back nine. I caught the lip of the fairway bunker and had to hack at it just to barley move and have to play my 3rd shot backwards, this caused me to make double and lose momentum, I made one more bogey coming in and finished with another 74 and taking 6th place.

  • 2A State Championship (Oklahoma)
  • 5/08/23 to 5/09/23
  • Lake Hefner Golf Course (North Course) is a par 72. My goal for this tournament was to finish in the top five. I started front nine my first day with two very unlucky breaks with one being plugged in the lip of a fairway bunker and the other being my ball stuck in a tree just off the fairway. Both led to double bogeys and led to a +6 42 on the front nine. Facing adversity, I focused in and played the remaining holes -1 for a final first round score of 77. The following two rounds were solid, i carded a 71 and 70 for the two final rounds. As a result of the tough competition and a poor first round, I placed 8th with an overall score of +2.

  • Regionals
  • 5/01/23 to 5/01/23
  • (36 hole event in one day) No range contributed to my failure on the first nine holes, couldnt find my rhythm and shot my worst 9 holes in the last two years (+11). I picked myself up and turned it around and played the next 27 holes only +4 on a tough course, giving myself a spot to compete at the state championship. (83, 75)
