I have been around golf my entire life. The year after I was born my family opened a nine hole golf course, which was previously the family peanut farm, so literally for 17 years I have been around all aspects of golf, anything from mowing tee-boxes, picking up range balls, to playing golf until it is too dark to see the ball. At the age of seven, my very persistent grandmother made me complete the “First Tee Program” books and tasks, before I officially began playing nine full holes and keeping score.
Soon after that I began to compete in small tournaments each summer. The last two years, however, I have competed with my high school varsity golf team and the North Texas Jr. PGA Summer Series. My high school golf team has qualified for state the last two years. This last year, after the first day of competition we were in the runner-up spot, and my individual score was the best I had shot at state, a 73. However, our team score, along with my individual scores, didn’t finish the last day strong. This was very disappointing to me and from that point on, I have been determined to improve my game and finish strong. The highlight of this summer was when I won the North Texas Jr. PGA Metro Area Championship with a score of 68. I am definitely a competitor, and strive to do my best in everything I do, whether it is in the classroom, sports, and life in general. I have always dreamed of playing golf at the college level, and I am looking for a program that will be a good fit for me.
