Personal Statement

My goal in hockey is to compete at the Div I NCAA level while advancing my education. I would like to continue my hockey to the highest level while attaining a degree if the NHL doesn't pan out. In trying to achieve this goal, I have recently made a switch from my school team, the St. George’s Fighting Saints in the CSSHL to the North West Hawks in the BCMML. This will allow me to better my chances of moving on to a higher level of hockey helping me to become a faster and stronger player.

My teammates would describe me as a dedicated team player and an extremely hard worker. I not only lead by my work ethic on the ice but also off ice whether it is in the gym or in other training. I believe that through my scoring ability, skill as a two way player, and ability to read and react to the game, I am an a valuable asset to the team. My willingness to put my team before myself whether that’s taking a hit to make a play or block a shot I'm a guy that the coach can count on.

Some of my most notable strengths are my natural scoring ability and shot, my physical and grittiness play, my coach-ability (ability to adapt to a new system quickly), and hockey sense.

A characteristic that separates me from many other players is how I bring the same work ethic and dedication to my education. It is sometimes difficult to balance the rigorous schedule of the hockey season and the demanding work St. George’s requires. But I have successfully been able to manage the two and produce grades that I am very proud of. I expect that this will make the transition to college easier and expect my work ethic to carry me forward.

I know that playing hockey at the NCAA level is a challenge but its one that I’m willing to work and chip away at every single day until I am successful. Thus hopefully I can compete at the Div I collegiate level and pursue my dream of the NHL.
