Located at the Darien Sportsplex 451 Plainfield Rd. Darien, IL 60561 The Chicago Hawks are focused on the advancement of youth hockey in the south/western suburbs of Chicago. Steve Poapst, Chicago Hawks Director of Hockey Operations and Player Development, is a former professional hockey player who is currently the Head of the Chicago Hawks midget program (U15, U16 and U18). He was inducted to the Illinois Hockey Hall of Fame January, 2018. Steve was born and raised in Cornwall, Ontario and played his youth hockey there. At the age of 16, he left to play junior hockey for the Smiths Falls Bears of the CJHL. Following juniors, he attended Colgate University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geology. Steve went on to play over 1,000 professional games as a defenseman in the ECHL, AHL, and NHL, playing much of his career with the Chicago Blackhawks before retiring and entering into coaching.
