From my first learn to skate class to my current Prep Hockey Team, I am grateful everyday day for each time I step on the ice. I strongly desire to continue on this journey while attending a prestigious university.
Balancing hockey and school can be challenging, but I have adapted well by learning how to manage my time effectively. Besides my time management skills, I believe that I have a great work ethic, which is something that cannot be taught or learned. I am determined to excel academically as seen in my grades and academic achievements. In spite of having to miss school for tournaments and showcases as well as being on the ice 4 to 5 times a week, I still manage to stay on top of all my school work. When I am not studying or on the ice, I volunteer for a sled hockey team. I love skating, which makes me want to share this passion with others especially those who are not able to play hockey in the traditional sense. I enjoy seeing these players have fun and compete on the ice. While they teach me not to take my physical abilities for granted, I have also learned from them that no obstacle is too big to overcome if you really love to do something. I also usher at church on Sundays when I do not have a hockey game. This helps the community in my church. I worked as a summer hockey camp coach/counselor in my 10th and 11th grades at Lake Forest Academy.
Playing collegiate hockey at a prestigious university that balances academics and hockey has always been a dream of mine. I know that making this dream a reality will take hard work and dedication, but I am ready. Through hockey, I have learned how to balance and prioritize my roles as well as a rounded individual and hope to continue to do so.
