Carter Salo '22 Recruiting Profile

Since I was a young hockey player, I have had the dream of playing hockey at the Junior level, and later the collegiate hockey. I have always worked hard towards my goal, but in the last few years the hard work intensified. When I started playing bantam hockey 3 years ago, my best friend and I both committed to each other that we were going to dedicate our lives to exceeding at the games we loved. His love was baseball and mine of course, hockey. We lost him suddenly last fall to a heart condition. This loss of my best friend pushed me harder and harder towards my dream. I have never felt more obligated to exceed not only for myself, but for him, because he will not get to achieve his dream. Right after he past last October I pushed myself to the limit  to prepare for my first high school season. As a result, I was one of only two upcoming players to be listed on the varsity roster. After a great start to my first high school season I knew I needed to allow myself to cope with the loss of my best friend in order to better myself as a player and achieve the goals he and I set out to achieve. I knew I needed to take my aspirations to the next level and creating this account is a step in that direction.  I am more committed now than ever before to make my mark on college hockey, and I know I have the drive to succeed. Something that has always set me apart from other athletes is my academic ability. I currently have a 3.5 GPA despite the struggles of losing a friend last year. My composite score on the Pre-ACT without preparation was 24 and my highest score was 31 in reading. I have always had a very natural ability to learn concepts of all kinds and enjoy and understand the importance of education. I plan on pursuing a Business degree, and pursue a career in a management job in the trades. I look forward to what the future holds for me and am excited and driven to make the best of every opportunity that comes my way.
