Coming into Mark T. Sheehan High School, I always knew I had what it takes to be the captain, but I hadn't quite developed the team mentality, the work ethic, or the leadership skills to fill the role. While making it only to the 2nd round of the CT state tournament hurt, as I knew we could do better as a team, it taught me that your whole life's effort must go into that one moment, that one opportunity. Sophomore year we were eliminated in the first round, a huge disappointment, but junior year things changed. I began to step up as a leader and recognize my role in the team, and we made it to the quarterfinal, only to lose narrowly by a late goal. However, these failures have not, do not, and will never stop me, and more importantly, us as a team. Now, as a senior, it is my moment to shine as captain.
In terms of collegiate athletics, I would love to play at such a high level, and continue to grow my leadership abilities. Academically, pursuing a degree in orthopedic surgery, in a sports context, appeals to me deeply.
All in all, I feel I bring a tenacity and a work ethic that elevates the team, allowing us to win more and exceed.
