2022 SpotlightPersonal Statement
Hello, my name is Augustus Ulrich and I am a junior at Winston Churchill High School in Potomac, Maryland, where I play on the varsity team, starting every game at left or right center back or outside back, as I did during my sophomore season. In our fall '23 season our team allowed the fewest goals per game of any 4A team in the county. I also play club soccer for the top 07 team at Potomac Soccer Association (2021-22 Maryland State Cup Champions and Regional finalists, 2021-22 and 2022-23 USYS National League P.R.O. competitors; 2022-23 USYS South Atlantic Conference winners), where I typically start at right or left wingback, or right or left center back. I also played for the Maryland State ODP teams from 2019-22. In the 2021-22 season I was selected for the ODP East Region ID Clinic in Wilmington DE and the ODP East Region Training Pool in Fredericksburg VA, and was selected for the ODP East Interregional team for 2022-23. As of the 2023-2024 season my Potomac team plays in the ECNL Northeast Conference (South Division).
I am a very determined and coachable player with good defensive and short and long passing skills, and I love playing at a high, competitive level. I’m always motivated to improve my personal game.
During my freshman year of high school, I took 4 Honors classes and 1 AP class and worked hard, earning straight A's in both the first and second semesters. During my sophomore year, I took 5 Honors classes and 2 AP classes. For my junior year, I am taking 5 AP classes and 2 Honors classes, and have earned straight As in the first marking period. I hope to go to a college with strong programs in academics (areas of interest include Chemistry and History/Government) and soccer.
