Personal Statement

I have played soccer since I was four years old.  I began in "Little Kickers" with my dad as my coach and have been hooked ever since.  My first year of high school is when I realized I wanted to continue to play soccer after high school.  Even as a freshman I embraced the opportunity to play with older teammates and learn from them both in soccer and in leadership. I feel like I am a good candidate for a college team because I am very positive on and off the field. I feel that my work ethic is one that stands out among other recruits. I accept correction and suggestion as I understand it makes me a better player.  Every player always has room to improve, especially in technique, but every coach who has ever evaluated me has said that I am above all "coachable."  I was a captain for my Varsity team this year as a junior. I want to be my best for myself and my team. Physically I have also become a leader on my team. I am a powerful centerback,  and I am our biggest presence in the box on corner kicks. I will not be readily taken off the ball and, although I lead the team in steals, I have also learned to be a patient defender and strategize the game. I will always work hard in everything I do on the field and in the classroom.

I have so far enjoyed my academic life in high school.  We have a small school and great teachers who really take time to help us learn. I have discovered about myself that I am really more of a hands on learner. I like to "see" things and then try to duplicate them.  I also love cars.  This school year, I am taking classes in Automotive Technology at my school's career center.  I am really excited about this opportunity.  Cars are most like my hobby, and I think I will really enjoy learning the book work behind them as well.  These classes will also give me college credit toward my future career.  At this point my career goal is to become a pilot.  I have been taking flying lessons and recently received my students' pilot license.   I am looking into either a business or entepreneurial degree or a traditional aviation degree to give me skills to function in an airline company or even run my own private service someday.

I am beginning to learn about business even now in my spare time as I have just started my own business:  KleenTech auto detailing.  This has given me the opportunity to use my love of cars and learn how to run a business.  Soccer schedules can be demanding and this business gives me the opportunity to have a job and be productive but have a little more schedule flexibility.  In my other spare time, I do enjoy other sports. I played basketball on my high school team my freshman year, but then decided to concentrate officially on soccer.  However, my dad and my brothers and I still play pick up basketball quite often on our backyard basketball court.  My brother and I have also received our junior black belts in karate.  I began karate about 7 years ago, and it was quite a journey to become a black belt. My Sensei has had a huge impact on teaching me discipline, patience, power, and control of my body.  I do also enjoy traveling with my family.  We just traveled to San Francisco and biked across the Golden Gate Bridge.  I also be traveled to West Palm Beach with my church for a mission trip last summer. We will be going to St. Louis for a church trip this year.

I am excited about the opportunities to continue my soccer career in college. I will continue to work hard both on the field and off. I will put my best effort into every area of my life so that I may be a great asset to a college soccer team.
