My name is Sam Yates and I am a 2028 graduate from Owasso, OK. I am a center back and the team captain for my ECNL team, Tulsa Soccer Club, where we are playing in the highly competitive Texas conference. Last year we made it to the ECNL National tournament in San Diego and made it in the top 16 teams in the nation. This year, our team qualified again and we're hoping to make it even further at the ECNL National tournament in Seattle.
I'm one of three freshmen who played varsity for 6A Owasso High School this year. I started most of the district games at center back and helped my team go 7-0 and win district. We unfortunately lost in PK's in the state quarterfinals. We're of course hoping to go even further next year.
I was invited to the US Talent ID center camp in Frisco this past October and was recently invited to another camp on March 5. I'm the only one from Tulsa in my age group who was invited along with 3 others from the state. Most recently, I took an offer to play for Tulsa's new MLS Next team, Tulsa Greenwood. After the ECNL National tournament in Seattle, I will begin playing for my new team.
Last July, I went with five others chosen from my state to represent Oklahoma at the ODP regional camp in North Carolina. I have chosen not to do ODP right now as my schedule is just too busy. I currently have a 3.83 GPA and last month was selected for the Principal's Honor Roll. I was also just selected Academic All-Conference for soccer.
I enjoy history because that is the foundation of where we come from and learning how not to repeat mistakes we have made, just like on the pitch. I also enjoy science because it helps me learn about the human body and how I can best function for sport and life.
