Dear coaches,
My collegiate goals are to grow, explore my interests, and become a more complete version of myself. Over the past three years, I have become mentally, emotionally, tactically, and technically more dynamic. The thousands of hours spent over the course of those years on the pitch have shaped me into who I am as a player today. I am someone who will succeed in the face of setbacks, adversity, and odds stacked against me. I train and work hard at what I am stronger and weaker at, on and off the pitch, which has allowed me to obtain a high GPA.
I understand that even though, to many, I may be enough, I always strive to push myself to be my best self. I allow others to compare me, but I never compare myself to others, as comparison is the thief of joy. Over the past 18 months, I have grown and risen through the ranks exponentially. In just June 2021 I was playing rec league soccer, just to enjoy myself. I then joined my local NCSL team, and enjoyed great success there, receiving a call up to the ECNL RL team. I then officially joined the VYS ECNL RL Eagles 06 team, my goals and success continued to flow, and I received a call up to practice with the 04/05 BRAVE ECNL squad. The coach assured me I was welcome, and the experience exposed me to playing with older and bigger players. I gained confidence and ability with each session, and by then end of my time there I was comfortable with playing my game and continued to work hard.
For VYS, we had good success. We qualified for playoffs and placed second in the league, a singular point away from snatching the title. The goals flowed, and if not for team injuries and scheduling, I am sure we could have achieved more.
My coaches have given me every opportunity to succeed and entrusted an incredible amount of faith and time into my development. When I faced setbacks, they were there to push me forward again. When I felt I was worth nothing, they told me I was worth everything. I am truly unbelievably fortunate for VYS and their coaches and my teammates.
However, I realized that hard work is not everything. I focused on my finishing and goal scoring abilities, living by the Pep Guardiola quote "The most difficult thing in football is to score a goal." I channeled my rawness and work into technical ability. My strongest abilities are my my dribbling and 1v1 abilities. My size and speed combined with a refined dribbling and 1v1 techniques have allowed for me to become a direct goal threat from anywhere on the field. Of course my competitiveness and mentality have allowed me to focus on improving my overall game, including my hold up play, strength, and developing my weak foot.
Outside of soccer I play Varsity Ice Hockey, am a member of Project Rose, and I am the Opinion Editor of the Hawk Talk School Newspaper. My parents taught me that interest alone in life is not enough, and to be truly successful you must be the hardest worker possible. As my dad says to me, regardless of it being success, failure, setbacks, or pregame motivation "Be a Beast".
Thank you, feel free to reach out anytime,
Eamon Carew
