My collegiate goals are to graduate with a college degree, win a conference championship, and a national championship. These goals are ones that must be achieved through hard work, teamwork and giving our best effort every time the team steps onto the field. My aspirations are to continue playing after college in a professional setting. I understand that this is a lofty goal that will take hours and hours of extra practice to hone my skills, speed and agility, but I am committed to do whatever it takes to achieve my goals and reach my aspirations. Words are easy to put on paper but my actions are what will make this happen.
I believe that I am a good candidate because of work ethic as well as my belief that it takes the entire team to win. I give 100 percent at practices and during games. There are always ways in which I can improve and practices are the place to make that occur. I am a true team player. To win, every player must contribute. Winning as a team is far more important than any individual accolades. I will do whatever it takes to ensure that the team is the major focus. I am a leader through both words and actions.
My life experiences make me different from other candidates. I was a foster child. When I was nine years old, I was placed into foster care after being physically abused and neglected. My brother and I were placed with the McLeods who adopted us when I was eleven. In my biological mother’s house, character and academics were not a priority. Survival was the priority. Athletics were never even discussed. When we moved in with my mom and dad, character and academics became THE priorities. We were taught the value and importance of hard work, being truthful, and being kind to others. School work came before anything else. My grades went from Cs and Ds to straight As. It felt good to be successful in school. It made me strive to work hard to earn good grades.
My brother and I were also able to play organized sports for the first time. My parents signed us up for a soccer league at the YMCA. This is when I fell in love with the sport. The fast pace, the techniques needed to play, and the competitive nature of soccer drew me in. From that moment on, I always had a soccer ball on my foot. I broke so many things in my house trying new foot skills and moves that I probably owe my parents thousands of dollars. As I have continued to play at a higher level, my desire to improve and drive to actually do it are some things that makes me different from other recruits too. I could spend hours at the field honing my skills and improving on what my coaches tell me to. I know that I am blessed to be where I am, and that drives me to be the best that I can be and appreciate everything that I have.
