Personal Statement

Ever since I can remember I have always loved the water.  My first swimming lesson was when I was about five and back then I was scared of the deep end of the pool. When I was younger I never really took swimming as a serious sport, it was more for fun.  I mostly dabbled in basketball and wrestling, and in eighth grade I was district champion of my weight class. When I was thirteen I started to look at swimming as a sports option for me, I dropped every other sport that I was in and I focused everything on my swimming. After a few bumps in the road I finally found a team that I could have fun on and become the best I could possibly be at swimming.

Coming into high school swimming I had no idea how well I was going to do. In all truth it was much less difficult than what I was thought it would, but that does not mean I did not work my hardest. High school swim team helped me with my technique and my club swim team helped me with both technique and endurance.  All of the hard work paid off. At the end of my freshman season I got a varsity letter, it was a very proud moment for me. Now in my junior year I am looking at going to 5A high school state.  I would like to qualify in as many events as I can.  My goals are the 500 free, 200 IM and the 100 Free. On my club swim team I will be going to Colorado Senior State for which I will be in a number of events. My coach says that I am a four stroke swimmer which is why I have qualified in so many events.

Although I have received an academic letter, I have found that I am not strong in the areas of math and science. This having been said I am lucky to have found out what I am good at. I enjoy history and learning about what events formed the world we are in today. I like to write and create stories that entertain people.  Art is one of my favorite things to do to relax.   Sometimes I make my own comic books, but most of all I love to learn new languages. When I graduate from high school I will have four years of Latin and three years experience in Japanese. I would like to continue this course of study into college and perhaps major in languages.  I also have strong sense of justice.  I do not like people getting away with crimes, which is why I would also like to study law. With law and my languages I believe that I can help people on a global scale.

One of the best things about swimming are the friendships that are formed within the team. My favorite thing to do in swimming is to race along side my good friend.  Each one of us swimming our hardest, and each one of us trying to out touch the other. Both of us have a strong sense of competition and push each other to do our best.  However, when all is said and done and we look at our times; we are happy for ourselves and just as happy for each other. Even though everybody participates in their own individual events, what holds a swim team together is camaraderie  and the bonds that are formed. This is why I want to keep swimming because of the hard work, the thrill of winning an event, the happiness of getting a new time and the friendships that are formed.
