My name is Josiah Wickum. I am in the graduating class of 2024 at Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I currently have a 4.3 GPA and I am a state qualifier for swimming as well. I am a utility swimmer and can be placed in any race and I am also seen as the team leader in all of my sports. Here are some of the goals that are important to me in and out of the pool. One, strive to be the hardest worker on the team. It is something that was instilled in me when I was young and has carried through both swimming and other activities. Two, to be coachable in every aspect. I understand that coaches are there to help and that they have more knowledge than I do so I am very willing to learn anything they teach. Three, being the team leader is also what I constantly strive for as well. I was always taught to lead, not follow. I enjoy meeting new people and learning from them which also helps me be a team leader. I earned the Jim Voss award which is given by the swim coaches to one swimmer each year for hard work, commitment to swimming, and a true concept of team loyalty and a genuine sense of caring for others. I have a very strong work ethic demonstrated by being in the gym between 5:30 and 6:30am five days a week. I am a well rounded student athlete leader through participating in multiple sports and school activities while excelling in the classroom. I feel I will be a great overall contributor to the success of a college program and team.
