Personal Statement

My name is Evan Senger, and I am looking forward to sharing my love for tennis with college coaches. I am committed to the arduous work and practice it will take to be a successful college tennis player.  I live in a rural Oklahoma town and have been playing competitively for 4+ years.  A highlight for me was playing #1 doubles with my twin brother and placing 8th at the state tournament our freshman year.  In my sophomore year, I was playing Varsity singles, but our season was cut short due to Covid-19.  I finished my junior year in high school by placing 5th at the Oklahoma 4A State Tournament in #1 singles. My loss in the quarterfinals of the 2021 state tournament was to the player that finished 2nd and after that match completed my opponent said, "You will win 5th place". I will be playing USTA, UTR, and ITA tournaments this summer in singles and doubles to help increase my UTR and to gain more match experience.   I travel weekly to Oklahoma City for lessons with my coach.  At home, I practice daily with my twin brother.  It is not only important to me to find a college that is a good athletic fit for me, but also a good academic fit. I am competitive on the tennis court and in the classroom.  I understand and value the importance of being a team player and I am ready to contribute any way I can.

  • This was the first official high school tournament of the 2021 season. Our team Elk City HS took 2nd place overall and missed 1st place by 0.5 points. I was seated #3 as the #1 Singles player and my first match was against Khalil Reed from Lawton HS and won in straight sets (2,1). In the semifinals, I played #2 seed, Collin Clark, from Azle, Texas HS, and lost the first set (6-7) in a tiebreaker 10-8 and lost the second set 2-6. I had a shoe malfunction in the second set in the semifinals which I was able to fix with gorilla tape for the 3rd place match. I then played Christian Shoemate from Lawton MacArthur and took 3rd place with a score of (1,0). The tournament had 8 high schools participating; Lawton HS (6A), Lawton Eisenhower (5A), Lawton MacArthur (5A), Azle HS (Texas 5A), Elk City HS (4A), Anadarko HS (4A), Chickasha HS (4A), & Elgin HS (4A).

  • Borger Texas Tournament
  • 2/05/21 to 2/05/21
  • High School Tournament. 8 schools were invited. The singles draw featured 16 players, 2 from each school. I was seated #1. I reached the finals but did not play the match for several reasons. My twin brother Carter also made the finals. We both had to take the ACT test the next morning. Our semifinal matches ended at 8 pm and the finals probably would not have taken place until around 10 pm and then there is a 2-hour drive home after what probably would have been a 2-hour match. Our coach along with the tournament director decided that we would not play the final match so that we could get home at a decent hour to allow us a decent night of sleep before the ACT test the next day. Match results: First Round Bye (player withdrew); Quarterfinals 6-3, 6-0; Semifinals 6-4, 6-1; Finals DNP.
