Personal Statement

In preparing to go to college I have explored the different degrees and options available.  Although I am undecided, my search has focused in on communications and business because I hope to own my own business some day.

In evaluating schools and opportunities, my number one focus has been evaluating colleges that will allow me to continue my passion for tennis.  I made a personal commitment to tennis my freshman year, making a choice over baseball and lacrosse.  I have found a love and passion for tennis that is changed my life and I could play every day, it is where I am happiest.  I believe tennis, golf, and skiing are what I call "Life" sports that I can play for the rest of my life.   Out of all these sports my love and passion is for tennis. I have played all four years of high school, summer, fall, and indoor off season.   I have attended many sport camps, IMG Tennis Academy and I strive to constantly improve me game.

I believe that my commitment to tennis is on many levels including working hard, strategy, character and game development.   I am looking for a school that I can get a great education, continue to play tennis, and be a part of a team that needs me.   The spirit of team and team members is also very important to me as a person and being part of a larger purpose and group.

All my best,

Quentin Nigbur

  • 5/17/18 to 5/19/18
  • Matt Weiler and Quentin Nigbur scare No. 4 seed before falling at the state boys tennis championships.Considering chalk the state championship draws tend to be in tennis, Newberg doubles partners Matt Weiler and Quentin Nigbur got their money's worth, so to speak, at the Class 6A state meet. The duo not only rallied for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-10 win in their opening-round match versus McKay, but also gave spectators the best show of the day in nearly upsetting No. 4 seed Charlie Law and Sayantan Ganguly of Jesuit in the second round. As the last match in progress at the end of the day, most of the remaining attendees gathered to watch for a huge upset and potentially significant blow to the Crusaders' team title hopes after Weiler and Nigbur won the first set 6-3.
  • Camp/Event
  • Three Rivers League
  • 5/09/18 to 5/12/18
  • With the pressure on last week at the Three Rivers League district tournament, Newberg doubles partners Matt Weiler and Quentin Nigbur were at their best. SETH GORDON - Newberg junior Quentin Nigbur lines up a volley during the third-place doubles match at the Three Rivers League District Tournament May 9 at the Portland Tennis Center. Nigbur and partner Matt Weiler placed fourth to qualify for the state championships, which begin Thursday in Beaverton. With a bid to the state tournament on the line, the pair faced West Linn's Ben Walker and Alex Houlette in a quarterfinal match that NHS coach Dave Brown said could have easily gone either way. But Weiler and Nigbur jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a decisive 6-1, 6- victory to punch their ticket to state.
  • Camp/Event
  • Medford Regional Tourniment
  • 4/26/18 to 4/29/18
  • 2nd time winning. The Newberg boys tennis team's annual trek south to the Medford Invitational is not only a chance for the squad to bond and get in a lot of tennis, but an important measuring stick for coach Dave Brown. Newberg won all four doubles matches, but a three-set win at No. 2 doubles gave Tualatin the advantage when the match came down to sets. Spencer Lanier played well and nearly got that set back for the Tigers, but fell 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. It was an all-Tigers affair in the doubles final Saturday, where No. 1 pair Matt Weiler and Quinton Nigbur beat teammates Ben O'Loughlin and Zach Blizard 6-3, 6-1.
  • Camp/Event
  • NHS Varsity Tennis Leadership Retreat
