The COVID year was my first in-person and high school year, and my parents encouraged me to try out for cross country. I did not want to, saying “I like to chase after something,” like I do in soccer. I was nervous because I had only done basketball in middle school, and was planning to do it again, and I had never run before. Once I started cross country, I began chasing something new; it was a chase to better myself, and I felt there was nothing more rewarding than the chase. I decided to stick to cross country, and as I grew and matured, so did my love for the sport. I eventually joined the track team. As I continue to better myself, I have set goals of breaking the 800, 1600, and 3200m records at my school, and have taken on a leadership role. I have asked fellow soccer players and new transfers to come join the team that welcomed me and encouraged me, in the hopes that they will find a love for the sport, too. My determination and discipline have helped me with academics as well, as reflected in my GPA. I have found balance in school, sports and family at the high school level, and now I look to do so at the collegiate level. My ultimate goal is to continue the chase to the highest level possible.
