Hi Coaches. Update: I damaged my patella during my senior season. I have had 2 surgeries this fall/winter 2022. I am still recovering and am taking English and Math and Red Rocks Community College. My future in running is up in the air.
My name is Hunter Paden and I graduated from Golden High School in Colorado, class of 2022. I’m 18 years old, 5’11, 150 lbs and run the 200, 400, and sprint relays. I was working on long jump, but tore cartilage in my patella March 2022. My doctors and therapists say no more long jumping. I also play soccer and golf. My goal is to run college track at a University and obtain a good education. My interests include drawing, woodworking, architecture. Off the field I enjoy golf, skiing, hiking, and fly fishing. In the Spring 2019 as a freshman I earned my varsity letter in track. My primary event was the 400 meters with a PR of 55.3. Like everyone, I missed the 2020 track season due to the pandemic. Our fall 2020 soccer season was delayed until Spring 2021. We ended up being snowed out quite a bit, and played 9 games in 14 days. We then went right into track season and I ended up with an over use injury. It wasn’t the season I was hoping for but I did make it into the JeffCo league finals in the 400. I tore cartilage in my right patella at the start of my senior season. I felt lucky to be able to compete in uh running events. I was the lead off leg of our team's 4 x 200 and 4 x 400 relays. We were second team all conference in the 4 x 200, and honorable mention in the 4 x 400. Our team was JeffCo 4A league champions for the first time since 1996. Despite the injury, I was able to get to within .08 seconds of my 200 meter PR.
I would be an asset to your program for several reasons. I’m fast and determined. I enjoy being a team leader, but I know the importance of learning from my coaches and more experienced teammates. My coaches call me a hard worker. One of my other strengths is my mental toughness. I’ve had to overcome many obstacles. I was adopted at 7 months old and was only 12 pounds. I had a vision problem that no one knew about until 5th grade. It made learning difficult. My grades were good until the lockdowns. I do have a learning disability and struggled learning from home. Once we got back in to in person learning, my grades went back up to where I wanted them to be.
Because of the injuries and the stresses from Covid, I decided to take a year off after high school before entering college. I plan to work at the golf course, assist with our high school boys soccer program, take a class or two, and run USAT&F meets. I'd appreciate you considering me for the Fall of 2023.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
