Winning the Colorado state championship my freshman year was definitely a highlight of my athletic journey. Although I wasn’t able to compete due to injury, I got to see firsthand what it takes to win not only as an individual but as a team. My sophomore year, however, taught me the most about myself not only as a student athlete but as a person. With the majority of our team graduating and the loss of one of my personal mentors in the hurdles, I knew that I was going to have to step up for our team. Throughout the season our group of hurdlers emerged as the highlight of the team with two of us qualifying for state and another hurdler barely missing due to wind disqualification. While we were the only members of our team to compete at state, the experience was a major part of my decision-making process when deciding to quit basketball in favor of running indoor track. As my indoor season comes to an end with nationals around the corner and the start of the season quickly approaching, I am optimistic that I will be able to use the lessons I learned about the value of teamwork, leadership, commitment, and sacrifice to help our team compete for a trophy at state this year.
