Looking back, I have been training to be a distance runner since I was 2 years old. One of my first memories is of my preschool teacher telling me that I didn't have to run so many laps around the playground, and even asking me if I was tired. She later voted me “Most Likely to Become a Professional Athlete” at my preschool graduation. I have a love for all sports but noticed that I always enjoyed playing the ones that involved the most running. Once I joined my first cross country team at my middle school, that is when I realized that I love running and wanted to be the best at it. Not only did I participate in the cross country and track teams my first year of middle school, but I also joined a club track and cross country team right after.
I have always enjoyed being challenged and never take the easy way out. When my friends said that they wanted to do a 5k run, I signed up for the 10k. I even take honors classes in school when most of my friends don’t. I interviewed for the Green Technology program at my school and was accepted. I am only in my Sophomore year in high school and already am a leader and top distance runner on my Varsity squad. I not only take the training seriously, but I also take my leadership very seriously. You can find me on the podium receiving a medal after my race, and always sticking around to cheer on my teammates in their races. I have accomplished some big goals so far. I am really proud of not only completing my goal of qualifying for the Kansas State Cross Country Championship this year, but also being a top finisher and receiving a medal.
Another big goal of mine is to be accepted into a good running program in college so that I can continue to improve. I still remember running in a half-marathon with my dad when I was 10 years old and some stranger saying to me, “I bet I will see you in the Olympics someday.” My ultimate goal is be for that guy to have been correct.
