Personal Statement
1) GOAL ORIENTED: I am and always have been extremely goal oriented: whether it is setting a goal to do well academically, or to make the "A" team in soccer, or to make the Wind Ensemble in the High school band or to make a sub 5 minute mile, I have always set lofty goals for myself and have worked very hard each day in order to accomplish those goals.
2) Structured/Disciplined: Probably the most important quality that I possess is that I am extremely structured and disciplined with the way I approach each day. Each day I have a plan for what I want to accomplish during the day. I carve time in every day to work on my particular goals. For example, I will practice my trumpet for 45 minutes each day. I will do my stretching and weight lifting as well as to have a schedule for my "long day" runs and my interval training.
3) Overcome Adversity: I have had, on several occasions, had to overcome adversity in order to accomplish my goals. One example of this was my injury that I incurred during my sophomore year of cross country. I suffered an inflamed hip growth plate which impeded my ability to run/walk. I was crushed because I was only able to compete in 2 events. However, I continued to train daily by doing alternative cross training such as swimming, stationary bike and elliptical. The coaches recognized my efforts and awarded me with a Varsity Letter, as well as my Scholar athlete award.
4) Strong character: Strong morals: Ever since I was a child, I have always had a strong sense of right from wrong. My parents instilled in me the qualities of "No cheating, no lying, work hard, practice, try my best and be a good person". I try to live my life with those morals.
In closing, my collegiate goals and aspirations are to compete and get to my highest potential as a runner. Also, I want to obtain an outstanding education, and one that will form me as an exceptional individual. This education will inspire me to help others and give back to the community.
