Personal Statement

My name is Matthew (call me Matt) Ohlson and I will be graduating from McLean High School in June of 2015. Competing in college sports has been an aspiration of mine ever since I was very young. I have now found something that I can put (excuse the pun) my heart into, and that is throwing.

I am driven by a self-motivation to be the best. In my mind, there's always room for improvement. Each throw I make, regardless of the length, I'll always check what aspects of my technique I could improve on. However, once of my top policies is sportsmanship. Whether I win or lose a meet, you'll always see me go up to the winner, shake his hand, and either congratulate him on his victory, or praise him for his effort.

I am open to all 50 states in the country in terms of my college location preference.

Over the next few years I hope to greatly improve my throws, working on technique and attending camps for it. I attended the 2013 Complete Track & Field clinic this past July. I played football as a freshman and sophomore, but made a tough decision to no longer continue with it into my junior year, allowing me to focus more on throwing year-round. My ultimate high school goals are to break the school shot and disc records and receive an All-State ranking for the state of Virginia in both shot put and discus.

Academically, I strive to be the best I can be. I believe that balance of education and athletics is extremely important. I'm looking for a school that can provide me with a great education and academic rigor that will lead me to success after graduation.

Please feel free to contact me at any time if you would like to talk to me. Email [email protected] or call/text (703) 539-9690. Email or text is greatly preferred.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
