I have been an athlete since I was five years old, beginning with flag football. I've always been a fast runner and as I continued to play football in the community league and middle school league, I wanted to try running track. In 7th grade I tried out for the track team at Corporate Landing Middle School. I made the team and with hard work and dedication I finished my 7th grade year at the City Championships. I was 3rd in the 200 meter in the City Championships. In 8th grade I also qualified for the City Championships, but unfortunately, I pulled my hamstring and was unable to participate.
As I've continued my football and track careers my accomplishments include 8th grade Offensive Play of the Year(Running Back) and 12th grade Defensive Player of the Year(Outside Linebacker). In track I'm currently listed in Milesplit.com in the Virginia Top 10 for the 100 meter with a time of 11:22(PR). In addition to my athletic accomplishments, I am an honor student, and I will be graduating in June with honors. I have also worked a part-time job at Blue Seafood and Spirits as a dishwasher/bar back for the past 3 years and will continue to do so this summer and during college breaks.
I aspire to run track in college and have been practicing 5-6 days a week independently prior to track season in order to improve my time. During track season in addition to training with my team, I train independently on the weekends and any off day the team may have. What sets me apart from others is my intense dedication and drive to improve. I was born with a hearing impairment, and I wear bilateral hearing aids. Although my hearing impairment has not affected my performance, it has been difficult at times with communication, specifically when playing football. I've also lost my hearing aids on the football field and had to play with only one aid in. It's easier for me in track because there is less communication, and I can focus on my performance. I'm looking forward to continuing my track career to the college level.
