Since joining the XC team freshman year, I have discovered in myself a passion for the community and competition that is running. However, I joined the XC team to a slow and discouraging start. As a freshman with no prior running experience, I injured my legs almost instantly. Because of this I was nearly cut from the team due to being unable to run the first two weeks of the season. My disappointing entry to running made me think twice about my decision to run for Bainbridge High. Nonetheless, I pushed forward. Three meets into the season I was put to my first test racing in the Freshman/Sophmore class. I proved my doubts wrong, running to first place with a lengthy lead over second. Since then I have come to greatly appreciate the team comradery of Cross Country and Track and Field and used it as a healthy way to direct my competitive side.
With the support of my teammates and coaches, I have steadily improved becoming a two-time State competitor following my sophomore XC season. This was no easy road, as in 2016 I pushed through four shoulder injuries that took me out for months at a time. In my first two seasons running, I have learned to overcome obstacles, and put in effort beyond my comfort zone. Looking forward, I hope to greatly improve my ability and encourage my teammates as much as they greatly encourage me throughout our next two years at BHS.
I aspire to have the chance to continue running competitively at a collegiate level. With enough hard work, physically and academically, I believe I am capable of competing at the collegiate level.
