My name is Gabriella Weis. I am 5’2” and a senior in high school. As a four year varsity player, I have played in the center mid attacking and center forward positions, scoring and assisting goals in key games. My high school team and Kitsap Alliance club coach describe me as a creative, skilled, and inventive player. Last year, my high school team even named a particular move that I make on the pitch after me. My strong foot skills, tenacity, and creative vision on the field helped our high school team become undefeated district champions and earn a #5 ranking in 3A in Washington state. While we lost in the first round of state playoffs, I scored two of our four goals in district and state cup games. I hope to help my team make playoffs again this year.
I do not shy away from challenges, I thrive on them. From learning a new classical piece on my guitar to applying a new move on the pitch, I push myself to master new found skills on and off the field. Having a growth mindset coupled with determination helped me in my freshman year when I found myself over analyzing my game and not allowing myself to play creatively and confidently. With the help of my former Portland trainer Tyler Pagano, I realized that it was my mental game that needed a makeover.
Through volunteering at a soccer camp in Oregon as a counselor in training, my trainer reminded me to play without thinking too hard, to rely on muscle memory, and to take more risks without the fear of making mistakes. Playing soccer with the WPL Surf Academy and transitioning to a premier club allowed me to step up my game, challenge myself, and further motivated me to play soccer at a higher level in college, all while pursuing an academic degree in math and science at a four year college. This past summer I even had the opportunity to play at the collegiate level with Kitsap Alliance in the U23 Cascadia Premier D2 League in the championship game. We won! I look forward to playing next summer again in the D1 Division. Finally, additional volunteer experiences with young children at my church doing VBS, at the BHS summer booster camp, and being a buddy for the BIFC Top Soccer program has enabled me to give back to my community and has instilled in me a desire to share with others a love for this beautiful game.
