I am Richard Jang and I aspire to play collegiate-level volleyball at an academically challenging school. My volleyball journey began during the summer before my freshman year of high school, and since then, I have improved drastically. I am very proud of the progress I have made but it is nowhere near how far I plan to go. I want to attribute my growth to my discipline and mentality and I believe that these qualities are special and make me stand out compared to other athletes because they are acquired traits that are earned through persistence and willpower, proof of my work ethic and fearlessness of hard and uncomfortable experiences.
As a player, I strive to hone my individual skills and become the best possible teammate, no matter what position I am in. To improve myself as an athlete, I consistently go to the gym to weight train as well as stretch to maintain my flexibility. I also make sure to rest properly when needed as I understand the risks of constant physical activity. Whenever I have time, mostly during my rest days, I always make sure to watch film of both my team and higher levels as I find it both entertaining and a way to improve my game.
Off the court, I am a student at Regis High School, the top-ranked catholic high school in the U.S., and earned a full scholarship to attend the school. Academically, I work hard to maintain my grades and strive to add to my academic accolades. Besides studying, I also take part in many extracurricular activities and am proud to be a member of the Christian service club and a co-president of the Asian culture club.
