Daxtin Cannell '21 Recruiting Profile

    My name is Daxtin Cannell and I am a Canadian citizen. I have played club volleyball for six years earning four provincial gold titles. High School volleyball for three years (not able to play my senior year due to Covid) earned two city championships. Beach Volleyball for five years while earning two provincial gold titles. In my senior year in a high school of 1300 students, I was awarded male athlete of the year and team MVP. 

    In my first year of volleyball, I started as a setter. I have had the opportunity to play as a libero but learned to love the left side. I currently play left-side wing hitter and libero interchangeably. I play beach volleyball in a men's league with a few current and retired professional players during the summer. I am torn on whether I like indoor or beach volleyball more. I like indoor volleyball because you are part of a team and have to have a skill set required to be a positive contributing team member. Because I am half the team in beach doubles, I have learned to have a strong mental headspace and a positive attitude. One of my best attributes is that I can bounce back from a bad play. 

    My goal for next season is to obtain a high level of education while playing volleyball. I would prefer to play left-side wing hitter and libero, but I would be willing to play in any position to assist in a team’s success. I would be very interested in exploring the possibility of playing indoor and/or beach. Each type of volleyball brings various aspects to the sport that I enjoy. Because I am a Canadian citizen, being an international student makes tuition, room and board very expensive so I would like to have as much of that covered as possible. I would like to join a program that will assist me in taking my play to the next level. Thank you for your consideration of me!
