My name is Gina Botticelli and I go to Thunderbird High School. Over the years of playing softball, my passion and skill towards softball has tremendously grown and has taught me not only about the game, but also life skills that will benefit me later in life. My passion towards the game started when I was 9 years old, when I started rec ball. After a couple years, I decided I wanted to expand my skills and to play at a more competitive level. Playing travel ball has taught me skills such as leadership, self-motivation, determination, and associating with others. Not only has it taught me these, but it has also taught me to overcome obstacles and to push myself to the limit. When I moved to competitive softball, I decided to switch from a right handed batter to a left handed batter due to my speed. With doing so, it has taught me perseverance and to push myself to become a strong athlete. I think the most unique skill I have is being open to constructive criticism and being self-disciplined. To me, there’s always room for improvement and I strive to work my best in everything I do.
Being a student-athlete, I constantly juggle with softball and school while maintaining a 4.1 GPA. As a freshman, I made Varsity and was 5th in the state for most stolen bases. Sophomore year, I continued on Varsity and made All-region 2nd Team. I not only work hard on the fields, but also in the classroom. I push myself by taking Honors/AP classes and by doing academic clubs. In middle school, I was a part of NJHS and also competed in the Honeywell Aerospace Challenge. In college, I want to major in biology and to grow into my career as a veterinarian.
In all, I know I’m capable of playing college softball and have a passion for the game. In deciding for a college, my options are very open into finding the right school for me. My main focus will be on my education towards my career while playing the game I love. My goal is to continue to grow as an athlete and to make an impact to a team.
