It was 105 degrees, I could feel the heat from the turf emanating through my cleats as the Umpire yelled, “ball game!” The other team ran out of their dugout and cheered. My team’s energy went from 100 to 0 as we walked into our dugout. My coach went out and said, “there’s two minutes left! We get our at-bats!” The umpire agreed and we went another inning and tied the game. We played three more innings, full of heat strokes, tears, and exhaustion. I had to hold ice packs on my teammates as we all thought we were going to pass out. The innings were tied the entire time, we needed a run to take the lead. I went up to bat with two outs and a runner on third, I hit a ground ball up the middle and she scored. Once our at-bats finished, we ran out in the field and held them. We won the Triple Crown World Series semi-finals. This experience taught me to fight until the end. Ever since then I have never given up until a game was officially over. This has helped me lead my teams to multiple victories and given me a sense of leadership on the field. I now push myself no matter how much it hurts in order to succeed.
This skill has helped me both on and off the field. In the classroom, I don’t stop working until I succeed. I am also a leader in most classroom activities, whether it is a group project or simply helping my peers with assignments. On the field, I am able to direct my outfielders to a ball and I know when to take charge and sprint for a ball myself. My leadership skills have given me a voice in the field that turns heads. I attract people to my field so they can see who’s responsible for the constant cheering. These skills will help me with my career of choice. I would like to major in biology and eventually go to medical school. I hope you consider me to be on your team.
