Personal Statement
When asked about the qualities that make me the person, teammate, and player I am, a few things come to mind. My ability to keep a level head in almost any situation has benefitted me both on and off the field. Things don't always go the right way. We make errors, a call could go the other way, or the circumstances could be less than ideal. That is a part of the game, and although I get frustrated I never let it go to my head. Secondly, I am a teammate who has learned to win, lose, change, and grow with my team. I have learned how to not only lead, but to lead by example. I am the first one at practice and the last one to leave. I never sit down on the bench during a game and most importantly I never get down on my teammates.
I have been playing softball for 10 years and I learn something new about the game every day. The strategy of softball is something truly unique to the game. Every pitch matters. Where you place the ball over the plate can be the difference between winning and loosing the game. As players we are forced to think about every decision we make. Softball challenges us physically and mentally. When I look back at my softball career so far, I am proud of the progress I have made and am excited to see how I improve in the future. It all started when I was five years old, playing on a kindergarten baseball team. My Dad says first time I picked up a bat, I wouldn’t put it down for two days. I played on the founding team of the San Francisco Waves, San Francisco’s first ever travel team. I was only eight years old and had no idea how much that team would change my life. Throughout the years I have made countless friends and built many relationships. In this most recent season I won unanimous MVP of the BCL-W conference and was named all-metro second team by the San Francisco Chronicle.
