Personal Statement

My name is Di'Jah (pronounced dye-juh) Dawson. I am 16 years old and a (A/B Honor Roll) junior at Lithonia High School. I have 2-3 years’ experience in Softball. I recently expanded my game playing opportunities by joining a second team. The second is team is a travel ball team, Mountain Park Panthers. I love the challenge of playing for two teams in my junior year.

I began playing on an organized softball team in the 9th grade. I would call my freshman year the "getting to know the sport year." As I was experiencing the sport for the first time, I realized that I needed some help. So, I started doing off season work with my brother through sophomore year. My skills increased tremendously. I'm always looking for ways to improve and became a better player and teammate for my team.

Lithonia High School’s pitcher graduated last year, leaving us without anyone to pitch for the upcoming season. I took it upon myself to take the initiative, and get out of my comfort zone and start learning to pitch. My mother signed me up for pitching lessons with Taylor Schmidt at D-BAT. I worked with Ms. Schmidt learning how to pitch for almost 2 months before the Softball season started.

On August 15, 2022 was the first day I started as a pitched in a game. I did get tired but that was because I was new to pitching. Now, I can pitch an entire game and not get tired. As I’ve said before, I am so proud of myself and my spirit and drive to do and be better.

I'm very proud of my current and future accomplishments. I see a bright future ahead of me in Softball. I haven’t and I won't ever give up. I'm determined to continually get better. My overall goal is to take advantage of every opportunity to help my team dominant the field and earn the victory. I am definite asset to whatever team I play on going forward.

  • I was recruited by Coach Mitchell to be on his Travel Ball team. He saw me pitch in my second game. I'm new to pitching. My high school team pitcher graduated last school year. I volunteered to step up and learn how to pitch. My mother paid for me to start private pitching lessons the last week of May 2022. Coach Mitchel said he was impressed with how much he saw I learned in such a short time. My mother registered me the next day. I have been practicing with the Travel Ball team and playing for my high school team. With my travel ball team, I currently play First and Third base. Im also a secondary pitcher. I'm excited, honored and privileged to have more opportunities to play the sport I love, and increase my skills.
