Personal Statement
My name is Adriana Garrett and I am a class of 2018 graduate. I attend Richmond Hill High School in Richmond Hill, Georgia. I can say that I have been playing softball over half of my life! I began playing at the age of six with my mama's middle school team. My mama was a middle school teacher and she coached the softball team; and I had to stay with her after school for her to run the practice, so she had me doing everything that her team was doing. That was when I fell in love with softball.
This past year, I must say I had the best year personally both in high school ball and travel ball. In Georgia, we play ball in the fall. My team, Richmond Hill High School, finished first in Region 3 AAAAA. I made 1st Team All-Region, 2nd Team All-State, All Greater Savannah Team, and won the Wildcat Award. My travel ball team is called The Gold Coast Hurricanes-Fisher 18U. My team qualified for ASA 18U Gold Nationals, so we went to Oklahoma City where we finished 13th overall. We also went to Myrtle Beach, SC to play in the Triple Crown Summer Nationals where we won the championship! My travel team also went to Colorado to play in the Sparkler; which was an amazing experience. I will be playing for this same team for the 2016-2017 travel ball season, and we only lost one player; so we should be a strong team once again.
I recently found out that my Papa's cancer has returned. He has multiple myeloma; which is a type of bone cancer. Softball is my strength, as it is his too. He has had his stem cell transplant and on the road to recovery. My goal is to play in college and for him to be in the stands to watch me. I am already working on that! I have started my high school season off very well. I again this year am the lead off batter, am leading the team in stolen bases, runs scored, have no errors, and I have one of the top three highest batting averages (.464). I believe it is going to be a great year. God Bless.
