Personal Statement
10u travel ball made me see softball as my life and not just a sport. Ever since then I’ve been working hard towards becoming a well rounded student and athlete. My 10U year was when I first decided I wanted to start pitching. My coach at the time told me I would never be a pitcher. I would communicate to her about my desire to pitch, ability and talk to her about playing time, though not many people will listen to a ten year old. At that time I sat more innings than I played and even though I was unhappy sitting so often, I always happily supported and cheered on my teammates. Sitting on the bench gave me the extra motivation and determination I needed to work even harder on my personal athletic development. I realize now that sitting on the bench when was younger helped to shaped me into who I am now. As a result of sitting on the bench I don’t take for granted the chances I do get to play, and I always give it my all. Since that time I’ve never wanted anything more than to prove I belong on the field. I took lessons from pitching coach, Kathy Baliey right after that season she stopped coaching and I switched to my current pitching coach Julie Roy. I also started hitting with Fred Wilcox because I wanted to improve my hitting and become a more well rounded player. Along with that I try my best to balance softball and academics. I am taking more advanced and AP classes this year along with also having to balance nationals, high school season, and possibly showcase fall ball. While balancing academics and softball can be challenging I have an amazing group of friends, family, teachers, and coachs around me that help to support me along my journey as a student athlete.
