My name is Kaitlyn Fisher and I'm a class of 2024 from Omaha, Nebraska. I went into my freshman year at Millard West excited and honored to wear a Varsity uniform, but I never settled. I came into high school only ever consistently playing catcher, but I wanted to fill any role that I could and I wanted to do whatever I could in order to help my team out. Going into my senior year, I've now filled many roles as a 3rd baseman, 2nd baseman, starting shortstop, baserunner, a good teammate, and a good leader.
During my freshman year, I had the honor of backing up our senior 3rd baseman and running the bases on varsity. I asked my teammates and coaches questions so I could learn to be the best I could be, and I grew a tremendous amount learning from my peers.
Between my freshman season and sophomore season, I dealt with a hip and back injury that kept me out of my summer season. I stayed as mentally involved as I could in the two months that I missed, continuing to show up to all games and practices. When I played my first game coming back from my injury two weeks before high school softball started, I came back better than ever. I earned myself a starting spot at shortstop and fulfilled my role, mainly bunting at the bottom of the lineup. By the end of the season, I was an all-state honorable mention from The Metro Coaches Association and Lincoln Journal star.
This year for my junior season, I started at shortstop again, batting 3rd in our lineup. I finished the season with a near .500 batting average, leading our team. So far, I've been honored to have been voted first-team all-metro by the Metro Coaches Association, and Second Team Class A All State by the Omaha World Herald, and Second Team Class A.
I’m not entirely sure what I want to do going into college, but I know I’m looking for a smaller school with a very family-like environment. I want to get out and see new places, so I wouldn’t be against going far from home. I also really enjoy being here at home with my family though, so I can go either way.
I look forward to my future wherever I end up going, and I’m excited to continue to grow as a player until that day comes.
Thank you so much for your time, Coach!
