Ulcerative Colities tried to defeat me, and it failed. At the young age of nine my parents realized that what they thought was a typical stomach virus was becoming more serious as my weight continued to drop, the excruciating abdominal pains and increasing bathroom visits did not stop. Thankfully, with the persistence of a great gastroenterologist, innnovative medical treatments and the support of my family, coaches, teammates and friends, I was able to recoup my strength and continue to play the sport I love.
Since a very early age I have played softball and will continue to work hard to fulfill my dream of playing at a collegiate level. My softball journey began at the age of five when my father signed me up for Tee-ball and from there on it was history. I went from playing recreation softball until the age of 11 and then, in order to face more competive teams, I committed to playing on the club team level. Regardless of temporarily getting knocked down, I thank Ulcerative Colitis for teaching me how to work my way to the top and continue on my softball journey.
My family has always been my rock. From my sports career to my academic achievements they supported me with everything I have decided to accomplish. My father has been a positive influence and challenged me athletically while my mother has supported me in everything I have accomplished academically. Thanks to them I have become the scholar-athlete I am today. Throughout all my years of playing softball I feel I have evolved as a player and a person. I have learned to be humble while still being able to be a leader to my teammates and a role model to my younger brother and other aspiring scholar athletes.
I am determind to work hard in the classroom and on the field to pursue a health-care related major in college and become one of the most valuable members on my team.
