Personal Statement

Thank you for taking the time to review my profile. My name is Julie Bland and I am a 15 year old student and athlete currently attending AY Jackson Secondary School in Toronto, Ontario. During the school year I play on various sports teams such as fastpitch softball, badminton and track and field. I will be graduating in 2022

Softball has been a love for longer than I can remember. My parents tell me it started when I was still in diapers. For over a decade, I’ve played on recreational baseball teams with boys as well as on a competitive all-girls Select fastpitch softball team where my team placed 2nd in the Provincial Championships in 2016. At the age of 13, I made a tough decision to play outside my regular association so that I could challenge myself, compete at a higher level and develop my softball skills at the Rep level (Travel Ball). As the leadoff lefthanded batter and starting pitcher, my Rep team won the Gold at the Eastern Canadian Softball Champions in 2018. Although I am quiet, I am fiercely competitive and it is passion, the challenge and desire to dominate that drives me to continue this amazing sport. I currently play on a U16 Tier 1 Rep Softball team for the Richmond Hill Rebels.

Should I be selected for your program, I will not only bring integrity, determination and persistence, but also dedication, reliability and a solid work ethic both on and off the field. I am 100% committed and strive to be the best athlete, teammate and student that I can be. I love to learn and have spent years successfully balancing the demands of playing competitive softball and my education, having done very well in both aspects. With this experience, I have fortunately gained the trust and respect of my teachers, coaches and teammates and have gained many valuable abilities such as effective time management and organizational skills.

My goal is to pursue a career in education, having had the love of teaching since I was six years old. I have volunteered countless hours working with young children in assisting them with improving their softball skills, which has fulfilled both my passion for teaching and the love of the game. I am looking to attend a postsecondary school and find a balance to further my education and continue to play competitive softball throughout university, as well as my lifetime.

I look forward to discussing an opportunity with you soon.

Sincerely,

Julie Bland
