Personal Statement
Hi, I'm Kayleigh. I have played softball since I was 5 years old. I love this game. I've played in the rain, in the snow, and the smoldering heat of summer. I love this game all the same through the thick and the thin. Through the years, I have found that not only do I love the game, but also the people I'm surrounded by who share my passion for the game. I've had tremendous support from all of my coaches, from little league all the way through varsity. I have absorbed instruction from all of my coaches to better my game. I practice and play with intensity; as my Dad always says, "practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect." Along with hard work I also rely heavily on my faith. Without God in the picture there is no glory. If I am not playing for Him then I would not be as blessed as I am now, nor would I be the softball player that I am today.
My freshman year I had many accomplishments. The team awards I recieved were the silver slugger award with a .400 batting average and a .486 on base percentage, the golden glove award with 2 assists and 33 putouts with only 3 errors for the whole season, and the team rookie of the year award. Also as an outfielder I was named 1st team conference all star, 1st team Progressland all star, and 2nd team all state. Together our team won our conference championship and our school's first District 6 championship in 36 years. Altogether we won 22 consecutive games, finishing 23-2 overall.
My sophmore year I had reached my goal of improving my batting average to .424. I had earned the first place trophy from my team for having the highest batting average. I had 12 stolen bases, 5 doubles, and a triple. The 2016 year was tough for our team, as we lost our starting pitcher due to injury. We never gave up, and battled to reach our goal to make playoffs. We accomplished that goal and had a season over 500.
In my junior year, way before it began,I had set a goal to reach .500 batting average. I worked hard in the off season, and during practice when the season started. I had been tracking it,hoping I would reach my goal. Going into playoffs I had a .492 average, and was so close. I ended with a .478 average. So, I was pleased with the improvement, but not satisified. I will continue to strive for the .500 average, and improving my power game. I ended the 2017 season with 7 doubles, 2 triples and a homerun. My 2017 season ended on a positive note, earning district and all-state first team honors.
With continued hard work I hope to improve my skills not only for myself but also for my teammates.
