Personal Statement
Everyone has that one thing that their always willing to get better at and mine happens to be basketball. Being coachable is a trait of mine that I will always have. If anyone is willing to give me tips or correct me on something, I always take up their offer. Improving is something that never ends and something I’m always ready to do. After starting recreational basketball in 3rd grade, I found out that I had talent, a gift, and a natural ability to be an athlete. Once my middle school basketball years came around and I had a coach that loved the game just as much as all her players, I truly found a passion for it. We had a phenomenal team that won districts and we had a winning season which is something not most of us weren’t used to. Leadership came to take place when I was in 8th grade and I had to play with all the girls in my own grade; something I’d never done before. I had been used to playing with the older girls and them leading, so when it was my turn I really had to step up. Being a leader taught me that you have to also stay positive and have that never give up attitude. It was almost like I was the backbone of my team and sometimes that was very challenging but it only made me a better player. Soon after that season I learned that high school basketball was a whole new ball game. It is more intense, fast, challenging, and I was more than ready for it although I was very nervous. Freshman year taught me that if you don’t ever have the courage to shoot the ball, you’re plain out showing your scared to miss and I was. Bringing on my sophomore year I’ve been in the gym a countless amount of hours preparing for this next season.
On top of all the athletics, my academics are something I take extremely seriously. In my eyes a “B” is not good. I have very high expectations for myself as do my parents. Throughout middle school I kept my 4.0 and after freshman year I still do and I plan to for the rest of high school. Being a student athlete can sometimes be very stressful but it will never hurt my athletics and academics.
