Personal Statement
My name is Libby Heilman and I am going into my junior year at Watertown-Mayer high school in Watertown, MN. I am actively involved in soccer and basketball. Sports are important to me for many reasons. Sports have been a big part of my life and I would like to continue to make them part of my future. I have been in basketball ever since I can remember. Every time the leather ball was placed in my hands I could feel a sense of belonging on the court. This sport has given me the confidence and discipline I needed to become who I am today. Every time I step on the court I feel a sense of pride overwhelm me. I have been taught to push myself and work hard in order to achieve goals which I set for myself.
It's important to me to open myself up to opportunity, because it is what I able to do with these opportunities that will define who I become. I know that what I am playing for is bigger then myself and my goals. I play this sport to make my team proud, my family proud, and to prove to myself that I can achieve my goals if I put the time and effort in. I want to continue my basketball career in college because I believe in all that the sport can give to a person. Discipline, joy, lifelong friends, and amazing memories all come with a person after they step off the court. When playing in college I will go above and beyond what is asked of me to give my teammates and my coach my very best. I want to play in college to finish what I started many years ago.
