Who I am
My authenticity drives my academic and athletic success. I am a person of my word, and others know they can rely on me and trust me. I believe hard work influences the course of one’s life more than anything else, and I try to take advantage of every opportunity as they arise.
What basketball means to me
Family is very important to me and the reason I love basketball. I started playing basketball at three years old against my parents (who happened to be former Division I athletes). They never let up on me, and they never let me win, which I could not appreciate at the time. However, I now realize that competitiveness motivates me to excel for my teammates (which I consider family) and myself.
What separates me from other basketball players
It is simple - three words: Leadership. Versatility. Hungry. However, what the three words mean is the key differentiating factor.
Leadership. I notice and appreciate each person’s unique characteristics. Therefore, I know how to bring out the best in my teammates.
Versatility. I am a 5’8” Combo Guard with a 26” vertical. I love rebounding. I enjoy working on defense because it is an opportunity that most players lack and do not practice. Outside of basketball, I have excelled as a goalie and midfielder in soccer and an outside hitter in volleyball.
Hungry. I can play all positions on the basketball court, completely understanding that leaders do whatever the team needs. I chose to learn all the positions because I am hungry for knowledge. I am a better player and leader because I can understand the game from each position’s perspective.
Why I want to play basketball in college
I have realized that basketball is like life - full of people, experiences, and situations. And, it is our decision on what we want to learn and how we choose to respond. I want to play basketball in college because it will provide me with opportunities in life that I may not have experienced otherwise: formal education and education through my experiences on and off the court.
