Hi, my name is Olivia Jade Armstrong, and if you would please allow me to give you a little family history and information about myself before stating my case on why I think I would be an asset to your program.
I am the the 2nd of 3 children. I have an older brother, Otha Armstrong IV, and a younger sister, Olesha Armstrong. My father, Otha Armstrong III, is a USDA meat inspector and my mother, Amy Armstrong, is a P-K teaching assistant for Guymon Public Schools. Guymon, OK has been our home for the past 10 years. Guymon is a small town, but I consider myself to be a well traveled and adventurous person. My family and I have traveled across the United States sight-seeing and taking in National landmarks of our great country. I’ve looked over edge of the Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam. I have explored some of the sights of Washington D.C. such as the White House, the Smithsonian, many of the memorials, and the infamous Andersonville Civil War POW Camp. I have visited Memphis, TN to see the Lorraine Motel and Dallas, TX to see Deiley Plaza. I love to travel and experience new things and meeting new people.
I have been involved in many activities throughout high school including STUCO, National Honor Society, Softball, Soccer, Show Choir, High School musicals and plays, Girls State Delegate, Rotary Girl, and Honor Roll to name a few. I received Rookie of the Year fresman year and Offensive Player of the Year Junior year. I have taken AP classes throughout High School which left me with Sr. English to take this year and enabled me to start taking college courses at OPSU. My hobbies include singing, drawing, hanging out with friends, and watching movies and documentaries.
However, above all these things my passion lies with basketball. I am a 4 year starter at Guymon High School playing for my 3rd coach, continuity has never existed here. My team consists of 2 seniors, 2 juniors, and the rest sophomores and freshman. I play the 3 and 4. I’ve earned my living playing in and around the paint. My soccer background has helped me develop my post-up game; my footwork and speed allow me to get around opponents taller than me. Whether my back is to the basket or facing, I can create my own shot. I’ve struggled at times when my teammates aren’t hitting from outside. When that happens, teams zone up and getting the ball is my hunger. I won’t say believe it or not, I will simply tell you nobody plays me man to man. I believe being left-handed gives me a great advantage. This summer when I played Premier League AAU Basketball for the renowned Coach Hamilton and his Oklahoma Lady Trotters, I played against some of the best in the country, it was an eye opening experience. I know now that I belong on the court, and I can play at the next level. Playing with girls that can shoot lights out opened up the court exposing bigger opponents to my speed and agility. Playing small ball is about speed and agility and when it is clicking it leaves big girls dead in the water. I averaged 15 points and 8 rebounds per game.
I do not feel that my statistics show my true ability. Throughout High School I have had to play out of position. If you speak to any coaches of opposing teams we have played you will know that I am a force to be reckoned with.
I hope that you will come take a look at one of my games and see that I would truly be an asset to your program.
