Growing up I played several sports including soccer, T-ball, basketball, softball, and baseball. Basketball was the only thing that stuck. Starting in first grade I never missed a year of basketball, I grew to love the sport more and more everyday. Being the littlest on the team I had to be strong, not doing so I would be pushed around and bullied. I learned to be powerful with the ball, and that if I worked at it, I would not get pushed around so much. Along with being the smallest on the court my dad had me playing with the division above me. As I got older little dribblers turned into junior high then high school. I worked and worked. I not only made the high school team as an eighth grader, but I also started in the last game of the season. I thought it was because girls were hurt or sick. I kept my head up and hoped it was because my work was starting to pay off. The next year I became a starter in every game. I stepped on the court knowing I was smaller but also fierce. I was faster, more agile, and capable of playing lower, better defense. Even though I did not have the vertical advantage of others, I learned that diversity means there are things that I can do better than others. I learned how to use my height and speed to my advantage. I am here to accomplish every goal set out in front of me and have the determination and willingness to work hard at perfecting the game I love.
