Personal Statement
As a player I strive everyday to improve my game whether it is physically or mentally. As an individual player I am in the weight room everyday trying to improve on my vertical jump and my strength. I also work a lot on my fundamentals. I work very hard on defense and have great recovery for help side. I also play hard high pressure defense I love getting in people's minds. Coaches in the past have told me that my defense messes with people and gets inside their heads. Our team focuses a lot on communication. I'm always talking and moving around the floor. I'm also a very good rebounder for a small forward. On offense I focus a lot on trying to help my team succeed. I'm always looking for cutters and back doors to the basket that I can feed a pass to. I'm also good at feeding the ball to the post. Our high school program focuses a lot on free throws because you never know when the game is going to be on the line and you're going to a be at the line. Over all I am a great team player and also an individual player with lots of things to add to any team.
My high school team has this saying "Little Things Together Make Big Things Happen" and each year my high school team sets big goals to be conference champs and then ultimately Division 5 State Champs. Together as a team and a family, in the last 2 years we have reached both of those goals. Being back to back conference, regional, and sectional champs. Also having back to back appearances in the state tournament. My freshman year taking 1st and this year taking 2nd. I am very dedicated to my team and I know each and everyone of us dream of making it back to that gym.
I aspire to be a role model for younger athletes. I remember sitting in our high school gym in elementary school as well as middle school and watching the high school girls play. I hoped that one day I would be able to play at that level and be out there on the court representing my school. That day has come and as I looked up to them, I want younger athletes to look up to me and realize that anything they set there minds to is possible as long as they work for it. I know from experience that it takes hard work. As an athlete I was never handed anything. Not a starting spot nor the attention or spotlight from a head coach. I had to work to get the playing time.I will never stop working to get my desired spot on a team because you can always improve on some part of your game no matter what.
